Dear Reader,
One of the highest purposes of the Order of the Arrow is to promote camping to the Boy Scouts of America.
It is a well-known fact that those scouts who go camping more frequently tend to stay in the program longer.
This guide has been published in order to aid scouting units in deciding where they should camp. In this
guide you will find many campgrounds over a five-state area that have many outdoor activities from which to
choose. Also you will find information on our council’s nearly 9000 acres worth of property and summer camps.
And for older, more adventurous scouts, you’ll find information on the Boy Scouts of America’s three high
adventure bases. Please help our efforts to promote camping among the units in our area by using this
valuable information to its fullest extent. Also keep in mind that another service that our Order provides
is an annual visit to your unit in order to personally convince each scout to go camping.
I would like to thank Chris Patterson for his hard work in producing the first edition of this guide.
His efforts made this edition much easier to produce. I’d also like to thank Chuck Wiebe for
providing information on Illinois campgrounds. Finally, I would like to thank Andy Geske
for helping me write the book. Now it’s up to you, the reader, to use this information in order
to make that important decision: Where To Go Camping.
Yours in Scouting,
Brian Privett
